Animations for Briggs & Stratton Expo Video

I was excited to take on this project because I was new to the company when this project was given to our team and I had animation experience that no one else had the ability to do. Our sales leadership team wanted a video featuring all the brands and products offered by Briggs & Stratton for tradeshow display and our biggest Expo.

The challenge with compiling all videos from each brand and product was that the look and feel of each video was different and once all brand videos were combined together, the overall video didn’t feel cohesive and looked like several different companies. We needed a way to make the video on brand for the overall Briggs & Stratton company.

Considering my animation experience, we decided to add subtle animations that weren’t distracting from the products. I added lines and animations to highlight features with the Briggs & Stratton colors. There were a few brands that didn’t have any exciting commercial content to elevate their brand, so I added other animations like the dragon for Billy Goat and additions to the gear for Ferris to help introduce the brands in an eye-catching way.

Most of the videos provided to me were not the original raw video files, so I had to figure out how to create overlays and additions to the videos without the ability to make any changes to the provided videos.

The project was challenging because my previous experience in animations mainly surrounded shorter social media clips and the skills I learned were all self-taught. I took responsibility over the project almost immediately after I was hired and I was asked to make animations I had never done before, so I was excited to apply my skills to the company and prove myself right away. The product, sales, and leadership teams all provided what they were hoping for and their ideas. Without the raw files, some of the suggestions weren’t possible, but I was able to execute more than I expected to. Without the need to hire an outside firm, I was able to save the company over $10,000 and was nominated for our annual achievement award.

Everyone was super happy with the outcome and how the video feels more cohesive than it was before, so now the video is also displayed in our corporate office and used for more than just tradeshows.
